A first feature of uncommon skill and pacing. I don't think I've ever seen a Director/Lead do both sides of that role with this level of skill (and in a début. I mean.) Sandoval carries the film on her back acting wise, while as director, her pacing & script build slowly, methodically, to the inevitably uncomfortable climax.
I especially want to note her compositional eye. Each & every shot is gorgeous; you really get a sense of what a small town in the Philippines feels, looks, & smells like. A wonderful debut.
