nabil ayouch is a great and impactful film maker with talented work that im yet to see. in this film he clearly intended to show the raw and dark reality of morocco and although it accurately represented a specific side of moroccan society, it was a very tough watch and it’s easy to understand why it shocked the public back then. i wish that instead of repeatedly showing explicit moments, the film focused more on the reason behind it so the audience can sympathize more. on a positive note, in terms of visuals, the film was aesthetically pleasing and it showcased the beauty of marrakech very accurately <3
