Listen, I don't know if the play this was based on was good or not, but I'm positively sure it was successful because it was a play and worked well that way. As a movie it has many flaws, and perhaps the worst of all is that it has no direction whatsoever. Is it a comedy? The remotely witty script wants us te believe so but the mostly unfunny performances of the cast show us the opposite (with the exception of the parents, they're really cool). Is it a musical? They managed to put this song halfway through the movie that feels so out of place you can't help but think it was there because Frank Sinatra was the star, it is obvious to have him sing something, right? It would have been more fitting, I think, to place it at the beginning in the intro. Who knows?
I'm just here for Barbara Rush, didn't really expect anything else yet I'm still disappointed. The interior and costume designs were gorgeous. though. I spent two hours admiring them.
