This was really not good and I’m only giving it as high as I am for visuals (the lighting, color grading, vfx/cgi, and visual mise-en-scene), a somewhat thrilling standalone story (in not comparing to its source material), and good acting. They kept the names from the original story so I suppose it deserves props for that. I also loved the fact that they hired random artists to do all of Pickman’s disturbing paintings. The problem lies in deviations of the original short by H. P. Lovecraft. I loved the original story and while it is terrifying enough, I though of another possibility Lovecraft could have taken the story which would have been equally as terrifying although that is not the direction this episode of Cabinet of Curiosities went AT ALL. Instead they made it a cliche story devoid of all the charm of the original. Pickman became a haunted idiot and they introduced so many questions in which they answered none.
