Not sure why this got so much hate. It explores so much more than the 2016 film ever did. I don’t know if it’s been done before, but it genuinely felt like the first time I saw a character reshape the personality of the actor playing them. It’s a dark story, and you can see how it starts to blur into the actress’s real life, even when she’s not performing. Definitely a strange documentary, and not everyone will vibe with it, but it was far more captivating than the usual TV style documentaries.

while I didn’t like this enough to ever watch it again, it has something and I keep thinking it would pair nicely with May December or Red Rooms. so maybe I’ll have to rewatch it as a double feature with one of those sometime!
