Feels like the kind of film that doesn't get made very often anymore. There's a deep maturity to Indignation in both its writing and performances that really wound up being deeply compelling. I've never read the original novel so I can't say for certain how well the words translate from book to screen, but the pacing and presentation of this film really felt theatrical in a way that placed a lot of emphasis on its really articulate dialogue. It's one of those film where three or four supporting players really get to make a meal out of this script and end up being scene stealers because of it. Logan Lerman displays an incredibly assured performance that rests on a deep internal struggle that every so often peers out and reveals something richer than you expect. Also have to tip my hat to Sarah Gadon who feels unstuck in time playing at once a romantic 50s teenager and also allowing us to feel a deeper turmoil that affects her relationship both to Marcus and the community. There's so much to chew on here ideologically and it's all carefully told and allows you to make your own discoveries watching Marcus's journey. Really high quality stuff.
