i want this album engraved in my soul. had there been a time where i did not listen to this album, there must have been a deep, deep hole in my heart that no song could have covered because i can't imagine a life without this album.

is this it: the blueprint for early the strokes songs with voice distortion, rough riffs and lyrics that ooze a line of melancholy that was not exactly common back then, especially with garage rock. ★★★★1/2
the modern age: one of my favourites lyrics-wise. ★★★
soma: i absolutely LOVE the ending. anytime where julian is screaming his throat out is my jab. they don't call him the throat goat for nothing (i'm they). ★★★★★
barely legal: i love it once again. #foreverseventeen ★★★
someday: cheer me up song. ★★★
alone, together: don't cheer me up song ★★★
last night: nina's in the bedroom ★★★
hard to explain: this has been my anthem on spacehey for like two years and i refuse to change it. i absolutely love the intro, and i love how early strokes song had a longer and more elaborate intros that involved both nick and nicolai. ★★★★1/2
nyc cops: MY JAM!! and once again, great intro. i can imagine this playing as i smash things in a rage room if i can ever afford going in one ★★★★
trying your luck: the stroke's lyricism at it's finest, you can't tell if you're th victim or the perpetrator. ★★★★★
take it or leave it: beautiful way to end the album. i do absolutely adore the guitar solos on this one and you can tell how a lot of the solo moments from this album reflected on their future albums like the New Abnormal, especially on TAAT or even BBTC. ★★★
