1938 Best Picture (11th Academy Awards)

You Can’t Take it With You, directed by Frank Capra (It’s a Wonderful Life), is a beautiful comedy starring the iconic James Stewart and Jean Arthur. It’s your average romance trope of two young lovers want to get married, but their families differences in social/financial status gets in the way of it. While not a racial issue, it does remind me a lot of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? and it has a hilariously cringeworthy scene between the families that reminded me of Meet the Parents. Those great films have to thank You Can’t Take it With You for being the one to popularize this trope. This film is hilarious and romantic, a mix of emotions that I think Capra always executes well.

genuinely so fun and hilarious i felt like i was giggling at so many different things. the lines, the randomness of situations, everyone’s different expressions. such an odd and charming movie:) it felt like 1930s brainrot HAHAH another addition to my favorite movies!!
