Proper Aussie shi right here, makes me miss being in Australia. Getting addicted to these surfing movies there sick. Loved the characters in this movie but lowk the whole last like 40 minutes got very different and very weird very quickly like bro was 14. Ending was quite sad :(

I think the general disillusionment around this film comes from people who expected a coming of age story. Breath isn't two boys growing up, but two boys being forced to grow up too fast.
I also think if your discomfort starts at the statutory rape you're missing the point, Sando is also grooming these boys, manipulating them and pushing their boundary's.
admittedly maybe having an adult actress doing nude scenes with a teenage boy was a bit gratuitous.
Teenagers are always going to want to be more adult than they actually are, but it's our duty to not take their childhood away from them. I think this movie demonstrates that beautifully. If you feel like it takes a gross turn and then ends abruptly I'd argue that it's because it's effectively putting us in the shoes of it's protagonist.
