The Silenced
❝Nobody wants to be forgotten, not even here.❞

❝Yeon-deok... let's go home now, you and I.❞
· · ───── ·⋆⋅𖤓⋅⋆· ───── · ·

The Silenced has an interesting premise, but it's let down by bad writing and severely anaemic cinematography. The plot initially attempts to create a spooky atmosphere, and I'll admit there are a few moments where the jumpscares work, but the horror elements are too few to truly scare, and the twist feels very odd and ill-fitting with the Gothic aesthetic of the film. Park Bo-young and Park So-dam give really good performances, but I can't say the same for the rest of the cast, and it's for naught because though the writing tries to turn their relationship into something out of The Handmaiden, the film isn't long enough to develop it to that extent; I wish The Silenced had been directed by Park Chan-wook instead, because the potential is frustratingly untapped here. On the whole, I don't think this a film I'd come back to, and unless you're a fan of anyone in the cast, I wouldn't recommend watching it.
