I never thought I’d actually watch this film, mostly because I’d always associated it with unhinged conspiracy theorists. Turns out they weren’t as crazy as I thought, so I finally gave it a chance. I’m not very familiar with Kubrick’s directing style, and honestly, I didn’t enjoy it that much, distant pacing kept me at arm’s length. Maybe it was just bad timing, but everything about the film felt slightly off-putting rather than intriguing. Tom Cruise’s “method acting” is truly something here. Turns out you don’t need much imagination to play a man wandering through secret rituals and closed-off worlds when you’re already in a cult.
