Daft Punk Unchained is the first film about the pop culture phenomenon that is Daft Punk, the duo with 12 million albums sold worldwide and seven Grammy Awards. Throughout their career Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have always resisted compromise and the established codes of show business. They have remained determined to maintain control of every link in the chain of their creative process. In the era of globalisation and social networks, they rarely speak in public and neither do they show their faces on TV. This documentary explores this unprecedented cultural revolution revealing a duo of artists on a permanent quest for creativity, independence and freedom.

Daft Punk Unchained
A truly brilliant documentary that chronicles through the story of the robots, the original version broadcast on BBC was one hour long (and was the version that I watched today, I have previously watched the extra 20-minutes that focused more on their music and live performances in the 90s).

I really appreciate the choice for this documentary to focus on their final album Random Access Memories, and this documentary was paramount for me to fully understand what Daft Punk aimed for and succeeded with RAM.

The addition of some other famous musicians such as Skrillex being inspired to make music by the robots when he saw them live on the Alive tour and Kanye West who had just worked with the duo on his album Yeezus by the time his... eclectic interview took place.

Ngl im only rating 5 stars because of how much I love what Daft Punk has done for music, and even film with Interstella 5555.

The documentary had some great moments, and even as a huge fan who has seen most of their behind the scenes, outtakes, etc., I still feel like I learned just a touch more than I knew before; and am glad to have watched this.

Realistically, BBC made a solid documentary on the robots, but no groundbreaking insight into them or anything, my enjoyment is the only reason for 5 stars, purely as a documentary it’s definitely 3 stars, perhaps 3 and a half.

They are a huge inspiration for me though and even just watching this doc felt inspiring for me just hearing their story, one more time.
