While I am (very) sure that I missed some symbolism, I think I got enough to appreciate how masterful Ford is with the lighting and color saturation. The story is beautiful and devastating, but the ending didn't work for me. I appreciated all the "jokes" he was making when people asked about his plans for the night or the next day, although I don't know that the vibes always matched the tone they were going for. I love Moore and she's doing great here, but the character is out of place and I didn't enjoy her scenes (based on the marketing, had I not known this was a book adaptation, I would have assumed her whole character was there just to hide that this is a movie about a gay dude). My two favorite parts are that he has a nudie in his safety deposit box and that whatever dumbass/pervert designed his house decided that the bathroom needed a sliding window right next to the toilet that looks out onto his neighbor's front yard so that when it's open, Firth is taking a shit and him and the chick next door lock eyes.
