And with this, I wrap up my Underworld binge. I honestly enjoyed this entry a lot more than I thought I would. Going off of the reviews I was expecting this to be rough - and it was - but it was no more rough than the earlier entries in the series. If anything, this movie feels like more of a return to form after UW: Awakening.
Looking at the second half of the franchise, starting with the animated short UW: Endless War, it felt a little inconsequential. Seeing more of Selene's life in between movies sounds interesting, but the short didn't add much to the story. The fourth feature film, UW: Awakening was a little disappointing. It starts promising, but I just personally wasn't that impressed with the villains or the werewolf-laboratory plot, there were some interesting ideas but they could've been executed better. The fifth and final(?) movie, UW: Blood Wars feels like more of a return to form, it's still rough around the edges and clunky, but in a way that this franchise is already familiar with, like clunky exposition, confusing timelines and under developed characters.
As a whole the first half of the franchise is smoother because the first 3 movies tie together quite nicely to tell a complete story. With the second half, there's too much of a disconnect between UW:A and UW:BW. Aside from a couple of tenuous narrative threads, UW:BW mostly disregards the events of UW:A. Since UW:BW sets itself up as a conclusion, it feels like it's doing the work of two movies and squeezing it all into one.
But beyond those issues, we also see a return of the UW trademarks I've come to like, such as the vampire politics, an expansion of the vampire/lycan lore, an exploration into new vampire abilities that don't really make sense and plenty of gore. Pretty much everything I've grown to expect from the series. I'm also glad that Beckinsale was given more to work with in these two movies, we see more sides to Selene as a character beyond being the badass-aura-farming-love-sick-soldier that she was in the first two movies. Pulver and Menzies were also nice additions, Menzies was set up as the main villain but he wasn't given a lot to work with. Pulver on the other hand had more screen time to explore her character of a power hungry vampire politician. I'm also really glad that they didn't try to set up James' character as Selene's love interest, because the forced romance between Selene and Michael was the biggest drawback of the first two movies and I really didn't want to see a repeat of that.
I still don't know why I felt so compelled to watch all of these movies, let alone watching all of them within two days. I also don't know why I've written such long reviews for both halves of the franchise. But I do have a soft spot for vampire movies, so yeah that's probably why

Eh I don’t know how to really rate this one.
There’s was definitely a huge pile of action which I enjoyed but the story just wasn’t it for me.
Also I don’t know if I liked the cgi and vfx that much. I missed the cgi from the previous movies when it looked a bit worse to be honest.
I just don’t have a lot to say about this but now I’ve finished the whole series and will probably look back on the first ones in the future.

Underworld blood wars is the fifth and final movie in the series. I always enjoyed this series except for number 4. It's always fun, exciting and has a cool factor.
Blood wars goes straight to the point. The pacing is quick and goes straight to the point giving no fluff. It really helps the movie too taking you too the straight cool action scenes, fun story and the always entertaining Selene.
The story is just fun. It's not complex and the most I can compare it to is a 90 minute game of thrones style story in the Underworld universe. The powerplay between the vampires is entertaining if not a little too cartoonish with some characters. The war of the lycans did start to loose its steam in the forth movie but in blood wars its intresting enough but it does. Feel like the villian is a rehash of Lucian from the first movie.
Selene is always a very cool character. I love her look later in the movie and she's always a great action heroine. David is also interesting and the reveal of his lineage has some good elements in the story. The villians are a little cartoonish here and the lycan villian is definitely a rehash but they are serviceable and fun.
The action is always good in these movies and it doesn't change in blood wars. I feel they had a little less of a budget here though. The cgi wasn't the best either. That being said it's still cool Underworld action fun and the Nordic vampires powers bring some intresting things in the mix.
