A washed-up filmmaker gets a second chance at stardom when he discovers stunning peasant Maria Vargas dancing in a Madrid nightclub. Goaded by his producer, the director convinces Maria to screen test for, and then star in, his next big picture. But as the producer's possessive nature and the realities of stardom weigh on Maria, she seeks a genuine lover with whom she can escape.

even when this movie talks about the character of Maria, we the audience only saw an idea of her visualized through the men of the movie industry
they expected everything from her, they want everything from her, yet we cannot know the actual reasons she is what she is, this movie splits pov’s with several different men in the picture.
harry dawes, oscar, and her soon to be husband.
all these men has a different understanding of Maria and her life’s meaning from what they’ve encountered, but just as she says from the beginning when harry came to pick her up,
the words i speak so simple, cannot exactly express the mind i have for those things exactly
3,5/5

(I’m gonna say I watched this even though I did miss the first 20 mins)
Again I love any movie that takes place in Italy, and I love Humphrey Bogart
