John Frankenheimer The Train is an ambitious masterpiece with thrilling heroic story of French regained what belongs to them from German occupation. The movie doesn't employ much of music and charming elements, rather emphasize on intensity, heavy and defining visual of real locomotives and explosions.
"Champagne and perfume can be replaced. But not art."
I love how subtle the line from small conversation is actually the core of story. It's not simply just about mere paintings and the artists, it's also about The struggle and patriotism of the French people, for them art is an inevitable thing that couldn't be separated from them. That's why they were adamantly risking their lives for what is worth to die for. It's their identity.
Burt Lancaster hooked me throughout the movie with his talented acting and how he performed every scene, utilizing his physique from climbing up the roof to rolling down the hill. Without a doubt one of the greatest movies i have ever seen, especially from John Frankenheimer. The one that hypnotized me with its meticulous, spectacular and viscerally entertaining visuals.
