Bothered by a tweet I saw unironically describing an entry in a certain ~30 movie blockbuster franchise as a “hidden gem,” I decided to seek out an actual hidden gem—directed by a pretty famous director and starring a very famous actor but known to little.
Murphy’s War is a straightforward story of revenge featuring great performances and even better flying sequences. I wish Peter O’Toole’s character was given a bit more characterization, especially early on, as it would lend contrast to Murphy’s building obsession and derangement.
