Good movie! Gorgeous and epic, full of incredible costuming, exotic locales, and impressive animal handling I haven’t yet seen in silent cinema. It’s fascinating seeing what other countries besides America were doing during the pre-sound period. Clearly they were making equally compelling, if still strangely paced, meals out of the new film medium. A Throw of Dice doesn’t tell a new or even nuanced story, but when told with such passion it’s difficult not to be immersed.
