The big mistake The Promise makes is that oftentimes it favours its nonsensical love triangle plot line in detriment of a much broader and meaningful one like the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Ottoman Empire.
Still, the film is entertaining, albeit with an uneven pace. Much of what I liked comes down to the performances (Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac don’t miss) and the overall theme.
