Cynthia Erivo gives one of the most gut wrenching performances I’ve seen in years. I really appreciated the thoughtful pacing and means by which we learn about this character’s past. A poignant film with beautiful and emotive cinematography. Alia Shawkat’s supporting turn embodies the purest forms of kindness and hope in an undeniably cruel and unfair world. At the risk of being hyperbolic, the bond these two women share momentarily restored my faith in humanity. These are the stories we need to be telling.
