i wanna write a funny clever 1 liner but damn this a great movie. i feel like people point out the “low budget” effects as a negative but i feel like it adds a certain charm adjacent to early cinema. not sure if it was a stylistic choice but i loved it either way. i loved the scene after they killed heneral luna where the soldiers fight over the valuable things that remain in luna’s breast pocket showing how that mentality of filipino vs filipino is so inherently imbedded in our culture that it still strives to this day. and omg the scene where they drag his body and it so clearly mirrors juan luna’s spoliarium omg i love jerrold tarog. you really get to see his progression in direction and the different styles and forms of storytelling his uses through the trilogy. i love how his movies really make the viewers reflect on the systems, ideologies, and mentalities that continue to thrive despite history continuously telling us its flaws. really shoulda watched this sooner !
