Unjustly accused of adultery in a scandalous divorce, Larita Filton flees to the French Riviera. She soon falls in love with a young Englishman, John Whittaker, and begins anew under an assumed name. But when John brings her home to his disapproving family, Larita’s past begins to resurface.

#189 This movie so wanted to be what Rebecca ended up being. But it fell short in EVERYTHING.

Larita was so real for being happier at the south of France, I'd be happier over there as well.

Based upon the play of the same name, and directed by a young Alfred Hitchcock, Easy Virtue is not exactly the suspenseful thrill-ride that one might have expected.
The film shows some promise of what’s to come from Hitchcock, but it never operates on a deep enough technical or emotional level to be truly interesting.
Easy Virtue is no real regard a bad film, it simply only shows the surface of potentially compelling dynamics and intricate relationships.
I probably won’t revisit this one - or at least not anytime soon.
