The is the first draft of some of the best movies in Soderberg’s career. Unfortunately, first drafts are usually crap.

The Underneath
Like catnip in the sense that this is the urtext for soderbergh’s entire middle period (out of sight through bubble? maybe?), and all the filters and split diopter shots made me sit up in my seat coming to this after blasting through all that. His self-criticism about slowness is undeniable since it did take me two days to finish this, plus Joe Don Baker isn’t in this enough, but it knows how to move when it wants to and I liked watching Gallagher fuck around with his step-dad. I will always roll out for Peter Gallagher. Watched through the prism of The OC Presents - Sandy Cohen: Origins.
