You know I gotta start the month off with something from Miike. Now this is a story that’s gonna stick with me for a long time. Such a drastic change in the tone of the film I mean I wasn’t expecting it at all but I love it. This really shocked me because I kinda figured it would just be an average movie but the shift in tone towards the end and the impact of it made me go from liking the movie to loving it.
When I first started off watching Miike’s films, I was kind of under the impression that he was just a controversial director who made weird or violent movies because most people only talk about those movies. However, the more Miike I watch the more I realize how amazing and serious the writing in his movies can get. I’m very glad I’ve watched so much from him now because if it really was true that he only made weird or brutal movies, then I don’t know if I’d be interested in watching them all. Miike is extremely versatile and knows how to do so many different genres of film and it’s absolutely incredible to me how many he can pull off. Incredible work by the writer, the original writer, and every cast member here. I really really loved this movie.
