23rd Miike Movie 🚀🚀💥💥

This is definitely in top 10 for Miike movies I’ve seen so far. I loveeee the cinematography and all the different locations in this movie. There isn’t a lot a lot of action here but when the action does show up oh man it kicks ass. Seriously, the final act is incredible I really love how over the top the action is there. This movies also got really great gore, not like super brutal deaths or anything but theres a shiiiit ton of blood. This is also one of Miike’s shorter movies and I think the pacing is great! This is just one of those movies where it knows exactly what it wants to be and none of it felt directionless or anything, it’s all very well done. Super entertaining, super gory, great action, short and sweet and another damn good movie from Miike.

Deadly Outlaw: Rekka
it’s not bad by any means, with some great action sequences and an absolutely badass Riki Takeuchi! however, i just didn’t love the storyline much. considering the vast majority of the film is the actual storyline without the action, it lost me quite a bit. now, it is worth saying some of the cinematography during these parts absolutely brought me back in as it really is stunning!

but then some of the lighting is awful at times which brings me back out. it’s a film with great highs, but by Miike standards, some unfortunate lows. i really did want to love this and give it a very high rating, but i just can’t. in terms of Miikes yakuza movies, outside of some really incredible action sequences (Riki Takeuchi shooting yakuza members with a rocket launcher, TWICE?! fucking amazing.) I just wasn’t that invested. that being said, it is still mostly good.

overall enjoyable movie that i do recommend. one i most likely will rewatch in the future, and hope to love it more!
