was initially skeptical about how it could tell such a bleak story in a one-note, meaningful way. however, i really loved how it represented every woman’s unique path post-tragedy, how they clashed and diverged, especially the mother superior’s. we never saw the tragedy on screen or even in flashbacks, but we also aren’t spared harsh realities, like when beaulieu is stopped at a soviet checkpoint.
and when on the nature of daylight started playing over the scene of the convent, three months later, in bright spring colors for the first time… that was everything to me.
