If you want action packed scenes of a dude slaying vampires and other evil critters while techno rap is blasting in the background then you’ve come to the right spot. If you’re looking for a story not riddled with plot holes and randomness, I would advise watching something else. This movie is strictly a good movie because it’s cool as fuck. End of story.

honestly this one was kinda fun but also lowkey stressful because everyone is betraying everyone. like literally… trust no one. even the characters i wanted to trust made me doubt them every second. but i really love how blade talks a bit more here. not too much, still cool, but we actually hear him speak more than one dramatic sentence and i kinda like that.

whistler and blade’s dynamic? yeah i love them. i’m so glad he’s still around because their connection feels like real friendship, like someone blade actually cares about. i was suspicious of him at first but nope, he stays loyal and that made me happy. but i keep wondering where karen is from the first movie?? like hello girl where did you go, i really thought they’d still be together as a team.

the action scenes are fun and dramatic, and i weirdly love every time a vampire gets burned by sunlight. it’s just so satisfying to watch them turn into ashes so fast lol. overall, cool sequel, messy trust issues, whistler supremacy, and blade is still hot.

I think this is a rare case for an early 2000's series where the sequel is just as good as the original. Blade II is very ambitious in certain areas and takes the story of the titular character in a very interesting direction making it stand out from not just superhero films but action movies in general.

Starting with the obvious, Wesley Snipes is still great as Blade. He's genuinely one of the coolest characters put to film. Blade's still a man of few words, but it's for the best as it adds to his mystery. He has more dynamic action scenes in this film, but this time around there's significantly more CGI. I'll talk about that more in a bit. His style and presence are unmatched and it's no wonder he's such an iconic Marvel character.

Guillermo del Toro's direction was an unexpected delight in this film. The nasty practical effects, creepier themes and characters, and darker tones are more aligned with his other films. That's not a bad thing by any means. The new vampire designs in particular are awesome and genuinely scary. A vast majority of them are in-camera which is very impressive. I'm excited to see Blade Trinity for the first time to see what the effects are like in that.

Getting into the CGI in this film, a lot of it is really good. Explosions and fiery vampire deaths look really good, but some of the body doubles look very out of place. I saw an interview with del Toro saying that he thought it added to the otherworldliness surrounding the film. I can see where he's coming from and for 2002 they look undeniably good, but I think they might have tried to do a bit too much given their technological limits.

I don't really have anything else to say about Blade II. It's certainly fun and at the end of the day that's all that really matters.

Sure, the plot is a little bonkers, and the CGI is a bit janky, but Wesley Snipes in that all-black outfit kicking the ass out of vampires is so much fun. Just one more film left, though I'm not really looking forward to watching Ryan Reynolds' shitty humour for two hours.
