first thing that caught my attention, the cinematography. i was hooked instantly by the imagery, the lighting, the colour palette and the atmosphere that had been built through the simple yet elegant set. there were shots throughout this piece that conveyed so much emotion and honestly really inspired me and reminded me of why i too, am pursuing film.
the story itself was captivating and yes, heartbreaking. i did get a little teary eyed at the climax of this short. barry keoghan was perfect, couldn’t have asked of anything else from him in this piece, he truly understood his assignment. i felt that scared, desperate emotion in his voice and the way he moved. it was real, raw. showing him revert into this little boy calling out for his mummy, unsure of how to help. by far my favourite short film i’ve seen of barry, he knows how to grab the heartstrings. especially when the script isn’t over doing it, it had all the components to a heart crushing story without going over the top and crashing down that fragile vibe that looms over ever scene.
