I really didn't expect this to be so darn entertaining. This is Cage at his most inspired, taking on roles in bizarre projects and elevating them in the most interesting way.
The movie is beyond melodramatic and the erotic aspect feels a tad overplayed, but it's fascinating hearing line after line of dialogue which makes you think the screenwriter consulted 16th century philosophers rather than listening to people talk. Then there's the rising stars Buscemi, Tomei, and Pantoliano who have next to no plot relevance but also enhance the viewing experience. Just weird!
