Bond, that’s enough, I want you stop sleeping with younger women. It’s getting excessive.
The World is Not Enough is definitely the weakest Pierce Brosnan Bond film so far, it falls off after the first off, the villains are annoying (in a bad way) and boring, and gets very predictable near the end that it has no chance of coming close to GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies. The first half is what saves this film from being a snooze fest. Amazing set pieces. Quirky dialogue and the fun inclusion of MI6. A real testosterone booster that becomes like estrogen once Christmas Jones becomes Bond’s sidekick. I’m not trying to be sexist, but Christmas is the most useless sidekick that Bond has had so far and is only used so they can have sex at the end and make a Christmas joke or two.
Renard is 007’s definition of wasted potential. A man who was shot in the head, survived, and now can’t feel anything. You think that’d make for an epic villain, being able to withstand anything. But no, the most of his powers is only explained through dialogue that’s poorly written and is barely showcased in a physical way it’s easy to forget he’s like that. Elektra is the most obvious use of her character that it’s sad because she was very fun in the first half, a fun foil to Bond, but once her true intentions came out, she was reduced to a generic goon basically.
Pierce Brosnan still does a fantastic job as Bond. He persists with his personality across all the films so far and feels like the exact same character while some decisions feel stupid. Each film he’s more daring and willing to put his life on the line for others, even people he’s barely met. The boat chase and ski chase were some of the most epic chase sequences I’ve ever seen without the use of firearms, it was excellent display of using Bond’s other spy attributes. I’m excited to see his conclusion in Die Another Day.
Live, laugh, love…Bond’s pervert glasses. Yeah sure…you’re just looking for the guys’ guns, not see through women’s dresses you sly dog Bond.
