Katheryn Bigelow along with Monty Montgomery (who would later produce Lynch’s Wild at Heart after initially planning to direct it) make their directorial debuts here in this 50s biker tale.
Willem Dafoe is Vance, a tough biker on his way to Daytona who gets involved with a jailbait teen (Marianne Kanter) while waiting on his gang to fix a bike.
Annnd not a lot else happens. The quote/unquote action alternates from a diner to a mechanic to bar to a motel with minimal plot progression. Dafoe looks the part, is super cool and has some bad ass dialogue like:
I'm a regular Joe. I've got an itch between my legs, and an afternoon for a heart.
Whatever that means lol
The visual aesthetic is certainly gorgeous, really capturing the look and feel of both 50s Americana and biker culture. Apart from that, it was a bit of a snooze fest.
