Just as the film Is a mystery– the fact that this film Is so unknown to the extent It doesn’t even have an average rating– Is also a mysterie for me. Sure, it’s not the greatest of films– but It’s still a really decent film. It’s an interesting blend of genres that quite surprisingly worked really well. A tale about a vampire that hunts a western town In the Mexican border. It’s however way complexer then described In the logline.
It follows a gunslinger who’s eager to travel to the town of San Jose, In order to clear up the bad reputation of his family name his father had left behind. On the way there he gets joined on his journey by a man who returns to San Jose after his 10 year absence. They’re however caught off guard when they learn that the town has become a town of lost souls. From there on we are met with countless great characters who together try to solve the mysteries of San Jose.
It had super unique and great features. The music scenes for example, where we were interrupted by the townsfolk singing and playing Mexican music– what gave a sense of joy to the dark mystery hanging In the air and greatly contributed to the Mexican western atmosphere the films takes place in. This gets even more strengthened by the fantastic world building.
Overall a super unknown but nontheless a super decent horror film that I could definitely recommend! I think I have found myself a hidden gem with the YouTube channel where I watched this film on– as they have many other, very unknown but great looking Mexican films, so Im definitely gonna check those out soon!
