Not the traditional stalk-and-slash flick I was expecting, but I’m so happy cos this was a gag! Super shocked that the budget for this was ~1.1 million in $ cos it looks so polished in terms of cinematography and lighting. Very on par with bigger budget films like sorority row and Friday the 13th (2009). Really loved the atmosphere in this and the score really elevated it (need the score on Spotify ASAP). The only reason this isn’t 5 stars is because the third act/ending is a bit too confusing and rushed, but everything that came before was a gag!

well. disappointing sadly. i love this genre, but the issue is that in most of these movies, and i've watched A LOT of them, they always seem to.. rush through the stuff that's actually important for the story and give you some boring ass moments instead, which leads to twists not being developed fully, so when something finally happens you don't even care bc the plot points weren't introduced well in the first place. and that's exactly the case here. i'm probably doing too much brain gymnastics for a low budget slasher but if just a bit more thought & effort were put into this, i genuinely believe this could've been ACTUALLY good bc the ideas are good !! but oh well. it is what it is

“Bodom” is a finnish slasher directed by Taneli Mustonen and takes a sort-of true crime approach, being inspired by a real-life unsolved incident in which three teenagers were killed and a fourth was severely injured in 1960.
The film follows a group of four teenagers that set out to reconstruct the murders in order to solve them. I think thats an amazing premise and sounds super interesting.
It initially follows the basic slasher structure and ticks all the boxes, until it doesn’t. It’s a very classic slasher until it takes a turn, and another one, and another one. “Bodom” is super twisty. That makes for an interesting, although from a certain point on very predictable, film. But it kinda loses itself in its middle, as it doesn’t seem to be that interested in its initial premise, giving off the feeling of being preoccupied with being twisty. It doesn’t really explore the thing that drew me and I guess many others viewers in.
What it does in the end is fairly solid and kinda interesting, but not completely satisfying and the film never completely finds itself again.
