An aging comic icon, Jackie Burke, has seen better days. Despite his efforts to reinvent himself and his comic genius, the audience only wants to know him as the former television character he once played. Already a strain on his younger brother and his wife, Jackie is forced to serve out a sentence doing community service for accosting an audience member. While there, he meets Harmony, the daughter of a sleazy Florida real estate mogul, and the two find inspiration in one another, resulting in surprising consequences.

The Comedian
I like so many of the actors and comedians who pop in, and the movie has some good performances, but as a whole felt empty. no stakes, no overcoming anything, nothing pays off, obscenities as humor doesn't translate from live comedy into a movie. can you believe he said that?! it's De Niro doing a script, so yeah, it's not outrageous

Oh god, what the hell was this? I was so excited about De Niro returning to the role as a comedian on screen after loving him in The King of Comedy
Shoddy and bland, this movie has subplots popping up for no goddamn reason. So sad to see De Niro dropping to these standards lately.
"I'm making poopie."
Yes, De Niro, this was poopie.

The Comedian
The Comedian has a surprising lack of comedy.

Robert DeNiro does a good job as the character, but the writer seems to be going out of their way to make you hate his presence on the screen. There were so many opportunities to have to make the audience like him to come around and make you understand why he is the way he is ala Manchester By The Sea except with that movie you are given time to understand who he is, why he is, and what he is. This movie just doesn't understand that. It knows plot beats somewhat having a beginning, middle. and ending; but even with all of that you being to just lose interest and become not annoyed but apathetic to what is happening in front of you. My thoughts is that at least if you become annoyed with a movie you are at least feeling something rather than nothing. Thankfully this movie is only about an hour and a half long, but that still doesn't help to make it seem like all the events that happen seem like it was worthwhile to even worth your time.

I can't say that I hate this movie because it at least functions like a movie. That didn't seem like a compliment but we'll go with it. Watching this with friends we got to turn to each other and look at each other with faces of disbelief, and even sometimes laugh because of the ridiculous things happening.
