It's exceptional how well Renoir's vision, style, and writing translates over to American sensibilities. Not many directors have the ability to effortlessly slide between audiences and although this was apparently chopped up a bit, it still shines as a wonderful example of how the giants of the medium can take command of even a rather simple premise and use their form to make it into something great.
Just more and more proof that Renoir is better than your fave.
