David, a struggling comedy writer fresh off from breaking up with his boyfriend, moves from New York City to Sacramento to help his sick mother. Living with his conservative father and much-younger sisters for the first time in ten years, he feels like a stranger in his childhood home. As his mother’s health declines, David frantically tries to extract meaning from this horrible experience and convince everyone (including himself) that he's "doing okay.”

As the son of a mother, needless to say I am fucking sobbing. Drops of Jupiter - I fucking hate you.

This is probably the most real and heartfelt movie about a family member with cancer or any fatal disease that I have seen in a long time. The dynamic between Jesse Plemmons and Molly Shannon was beautiful, emotional, and powerful. Other People has the perfect blend of comedy and rip-your-heart out emotion. I laughed a ton and I cried a fuck ton. Plemmons’ character along with his family dynamic is so intriguing that I think a lot of people from the LGBT+ community can probably really relate to. Even just as a liberal son (although straight) with an extremely conservative father, even I found it somewhat relatable. I just selected a random 90ish minute movie from my watchlist and was NOT expecting to absolutely love this movie, yet here I am.

I still hate you Drops of Jupiter.
