The Art Idol Koe-chan's Challenge! Transformation Land

a neat, very random watch, which was certainly a treat, with its stylistic elements and content collating in something wholly unique. this is my first shozin fukui work, and, while reviews indicate this is the least befitting addition to his oeuvre, i had a lot of fun with it and am definitely going to consider revisiting him / exploring his work. while some of the camerawork and editing felt voyeuristic, pornographic even, it was never actually doing so on anything erogenous or sexual, with the nudity being pretty casual and non-centred. the superflat pop art painted onto the body is really interesting, and while some were more successful then others (my favs were the first and last pieces), i enjoyed seeing the final pieces being constructed on koe-chan's canvas form. i dont speak japanese, despite watching so much stuff in japanese that has no subs lol, but the dialogue here is simple and minimal, with the real focus being on the mesmerising artistic process. noting the differing behaviours and ways in which each artist worked was really interesting, and i enjoyed the variety in their styles. the more surrealist moments, usually transitioning us between the different body painters, were engaging, but definitely a little jarring.
