Ahhhhhh you thought I forgot about these One Piece Updates didn't you, the one person reading this... BUT ALAS I have not and not only am I logging this Special, but I am here to update my progress now that I have completed the infamous Dressrosa Arc. And well it was certainly a roller coaster to say the least. The pacing here, and post Time Skip at large, is certainly a whole new animal. Fishman Island definitely suffered from these pacing issues and massive breaks from story telling, but all in all that arc mostly had that in lump chunks and then continued to progress at a regular pace, but this... this was difficult. I am also at the point in this viewing where I have surpassed where I stopped reading about ten years ago and the entire Punk Hazard and Dressrosa Arcs were entirely new to me. There truly is a lot of awesome and iconic material in these arcs and overall I found Punk Hazard to be very well paced and entertaining, but Dressrosa is the first time in around 700 episodes of this series where my patience started to get seriously tested. Of course there are some really great and even all time amazing segments in this arc but the pacing here especially with over half of the arc being elevated to a climactic pitch only for it to continue for hours and feel like it runs out of steam before it truly ends. It never hits the heights of similar arcs like Alabasta in my opinion because of these horrific pacing issues, though there are certainly moments and mini arcs within this arc that will certainly stick with me and after the arc wrapped up I found myself really excited to go on to the next. So I guess all in all, I feel Dressrosa does wrap up on a positive note and the much needed pallette cleanser of Film Gold has got me refreshed and ready for Whole Cake Island!
As for Sabo, the stuff here between the brothers really really hits home for me and is the stuff that gets me emotional regarding One Piece. His elements among the Dressrosa Arc hit the hardest and seeing his struggle and seeing the three brothers as children is so unbelievably affecting that I was reminded that the this show is more than just a Battle Shounen, even if the gargantuan arc I was in the middle of really was starting to feel like that for the first time. I kind of like the recap specials for the simple act of being able to revisit things like marinfold and dressrosa without the major commitment of rewatching episodes, but there are definitely some I'd go back to more than others, this is of the better ones I think.
