A gangster noir wrapped up in a stellar Coens script that never lets up for a single second. A brilliant, soap operatic, irreverent take on struggles for power that ultimately result only in stagnation, despite the massive amounts of effort that are poured into it. Both gang leaders use the same methods, employ the same kind of people, and aim for the same thing. And when it's all said and done, despite the herculean efforts of Tom, we're right back exactly where we started, in our unnamed, unremarkable town, with nothing to show for it. When it all comes down to it, we're all just foolish men, chasing after our dreams of magic hats, thinking our efforts might change something that can really never be changed.

Remarkable performances all around. Gabriel Burne, brilliant. John Tuturro, brilliant. Jon Polito, hilarious and brilliant. The direction is so creative, and welds perfectly with the snappy dialogue. There's just some real magic in every Coen film. Irreplicable.

Miller's crossing wanted to be seen as complex and subtle film like the godfather, but they didnt have strong setup. They introduce character and conflicts without clarity. I spent the entire film trying to understand what exactly the core conflicts was.

The writing is just gripping.
The way the story kept me in a lock made more curious how many twists and turns can there be.
