i loved this movie so much. i can’t believe i hadn’t seen it before this.
after watching it, i went to read some other reviews/analysis of the movie, and found that a lot of people disliked this movie. the top reasons i saw for people disliking the movie, was the pacing, some plot holes, and differences from the book.
maybe it’s because i haven’t read the book, but i really loved the movie. plot holes exists in everything i feel like, and sometimes they exist for a reason. i felt like i could fill in the blank with some of the things that happened in the movie. something’s are meant to be a wonder, not everything needs to be spread out and explained in detail for people to understand.
after watching so many other studio ghibli films it felt so good to watch this one. it had a very dark feeling as you watch it, with the main themes being fear, life and death, compliance, etc. it’s a beautiful movie, with so much to learn from it. the characters are relatable, and nuanced. while some parts of the story line feel basic or easy (which was another criticism from others online), there’s so much more to it than that.
it’s a great story, with dark elements that could leave you thinking for hours. highly recommended.
