Love! Always love finding a hidden gem from the Hayes code era that does its best to shirk off the restraints of the code. Undocumented immigrants, stolen horse race money, extra marital affair, lottery machines, foreplay, a black child seemingly going to the same school as the white children? Crazy times.
I actually gasped when Wesley got shot. I was like oh okay, anything can happen now.
I liked the wife character. When she got turned on by asking him about the woman on the boat. Her dyeing her hair to try and get his attention. I mean hell, I’d sew in the middle of the night if John Garfield was my husband.
The Criterion Blu-Ray I got for this was immaculate. Very clear picture, looked gorgeous.
