my biggest problem with classic noir films is that they created this association between noir and jazz that makes them almost inseparable nowadays. like what if i wanted to watch a film noir that had an ost with nothing but alex g and elliot smith? duster? nu funk? a noir film with trip hop and acid trance?

i blame old people for the lack of forward thinking and younger generations for thinking that film noirs are antique and shouldn’t be adapted. film noirs could be SO MUCH FUCKING COOLER IF IT WERENT JUST COPY PASTED GIMMICKY LONELY TRUMPET BULLSHIT FROM ELEVATOR TO THE GALLOWS

This started very promising and I loved Ella Raines as a female sleuth (I don’t think I’ve seen many like her, except Teresa Wright in Shadow of a doubt). She’s amazing at intimidating the bartender and going undercover as a  flirty gal to seduce Elisha Cook jr. Franchot Tone was very good as the tormented criminal but once he appeared the movie quality declined. And Also the ending, lessening Ella Raines character was a mistake. This could’ve been SO much better. All the pieces were there but it was still a fun ride.
