Well that was unexpected. Again, another Joel Potrykus Forest bound surprising film. I gotta sit with this, it really threw me for a loop in a good way. Joel is really inspiring to me. I became an editor because I wanted to make films, and films like this feel achievable.

It was alright, I just needed more Cortez and it got boring after the demon.

My second Potrykus film after catching Vulcanizadora earlier this year. I gotta watch more of his stuff cause so few films get such a physically uncomfortable feeling out of me but both of his movies that I’ve seen have done just that. It’s like a car crash that I can’t look away from.

The middle third of this is some of the most eerie, brow-furrowing filmmaking I’ve seen. This shit had me genuinely spooked. It had a full head of steam but does take its foot off the gas big time towards the end. I didn’t mind the movie’s slow, patient build up but I thought returning to it for the last 15 minutes or so was an odd choice - though I did like the ending as a whole.

Ty Hickson is great in this and I loved Amari Cheatom as well. All their interactions are awesome - the cat food scene in particular is funny as hell. There’s a good amount of comedy spread throughout the movie but not enough to override how sinister it is.
