In 1987, to capitalize on his growing success in Europe, Prince toured extensively to promote the album of the same name and sales increased accordingly. However, the United States remained resistant to his latest album, and sales began to drop; it was at this point that Prince decided to film a live concert promoting the new material, for eventual distribution to theaters in America. Featuring the band that accompanied Prince on his 1987 Sign o' the Times Tour, including dancer Cat Glover, keyboardist Boni Boyer, bassist Levi Seacer, Jr., guitarist Miko Weaver, drummer Sheila E. and former member of The Revolution keyboardist Dr. Fink, the film sees the group perform live on stage (although "U Got the Look" is represented by its promotional music video).

Prince is in his own class of performing and musicianship. He makes it look so easy throughout this whole film and of course the album that is attached to it. The energy, the quick turn around between instruments for prince, and the other star of the show, the fucking badass Sheila E (who has an epic mid show solo) come together for a brisk 80 mins of musical bliss

I'd never been to the IMAX before this, to be honest the screen is too big but the seats are insanely comfortable.

Great visuals, I think being able to capture shots like that in the moment is an insane skill, loved the colours loved the editing, the band was insane that bass and drums phewee man!

I liked when Prince got his slutty jumpsuit out.

seen this a million times growing up but this was my first time seeing it in a theater.

so ahead of his time and one of the last of a dying breed. the story telling the cinematography. the music. ugh just perfect.

Shelia E is a BEAST

he has the most beautiful eyes and the suits my god.

watching this after going to see beyoncé just proves how much of a student of his she is.

i love watching talented artist get lost in their craft
