Ooooh I loved this. Very distant and offputting but also evocative as can be. It kind of feels like the first act (there’s a TBC at the end but he never made a sequel), but it’s really a shocking and beautiful first act. Makes sense that Hamaguchi would eventually take on Murakami bc this very much has the off kilter yet empathetic vibes of a Murakami short story.
