An author who was sent to the town Drakho, because of a nervous breakdown, gets wound up in a mystery revolving around demons and werewolves. She starts seeing ghosts and dismisses them as her own imagination, but when they turn out to be real she becomes suspicious of the odd town and of its past.

1988 | The Howling | Werewolves
"Howling IV: The Original Nightmare" is kind of a remake of Dante's original film in that is an apparently more faithful adaptation of the book that one is loosely based on. I'm not a fan of the original, but compared to this turd it's a masterpiece.
"Howling IV: The Original Nightmare" had some production problems and is so low budget that it was shot without sound. Hence the film has a pretty bad dubbing. The acting is bad, the dialogues are bad, the editing is bad, the direction is bad, the writing is bad, the pacing is awful and the film feels way too long. I shit you not when I say that absolutely nothing of relevance happens for well over an hour. Nothing. Unbelievable boredom makes watching the film almost unbearable and I kept getting "Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland" and "Sleepaway Camp IV: The Survivor" vibes, the film is that bad. The film is unprecedentedly uninteresting in terms of content, visuality and storytelling.
In addition, there are hardly any werewolves in the film. There is one great melting effect in the last 10 minutes and one good-looking werewolf that is not a literal dog (!), but apart from that, I can't think of a single positive thing.
I thought for a long time whether I would give the film a half star or actually one star, but in the end two or three good effects in the last 10 minutes do not save a film and do not undo the shittyness of the previous about 80 minutes. For now, it is half a star, maybe I'll upgrade the film to one if the thought occurs to me overnight that this melting effect deserves an extra half a star. But I don't think that will happen.
