The Fantastic Adventures of Unico

This movie was so so cute i loved it. I love the style of old anime's like this one. Unico is such a precious little guy and i love him. Caty is also adorable. It was deffinately a slower paced movie but it was relaxing and very sweet. Not to mention the west wind along with unico and caty have the most gorgeous art. The first book of the unico reboot somewhat follows the plot of this but its more of a focus on katy and unico and theres no devil guy. Idk its very cute, i enjoyed it, I would watch again

A heartbreaking bummer. What the hell is a matter with Tezuka!

a beautifully animated film that ends on an insane and somber note with commentary that says everything and fucking nothing at the same time. i feel like i’ve lived five lifetimes while watching this and i don’t know how to process any of it. what the fuck just happened?

Osamu Tezuka is my favorite Mangaka, so I was excited for this. It was fun, but it dragged at times. Especially Beezel's section. 
As is typical with Tezuka's more lighthearted works, the plot is a little all over. The end fight is just random stuff happening, which is fine though. It's also episodic in nature, which is different from plot being all over, and is one of my favorite things about Tezuka's story. It inspires me to make stories in the same way. I wish that Katie's section was shorter and there was a third story though, that would be neat. 
The direction is insane though. Shots like the sword being in focus with the background blurred (which is basic, yes, but i've never seen it in animation, or at least animation like this), the camera panning through the monster's mouth, the cut and squacking when the Baron arrived. All super awesome.
