A documentary about Soulwax: Director Saam Farahmand filmed Soulwax on their recent international dates, capturing all the excitement, chaos and humour of the world tour. Where the Beastie Boys filmed one gig with 50 cameras, Soulwax filmed 120 shows with one camera, in Europe, Japan, US, Latin America and Australia. The result is a snapshot of life on the road with one of the most exciting live bands in the world, and features their friends including 2manyDJ's, James Murphy & Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem), Erol Alkan, Tiga, Justice, Busy P, So-Me, Peaches, Klaxons and many more in interview, as well as behind-the-scenes footage, and LOTS of music.

A good documentary focusing on Soulwax's contributions to the blog-house scene of the mid to late 2000s, alas, it's not as intense or overwhelming as the similar A Cross The Universe by Justice.

I've known about soulwax for a bit now through their various remixes but this definitely made me a fan of theirs. They are just so much fun! First of all, they have to figure out a better naming convention because holy shit, you've got Soulwax, SoulWax Nite versions, Radio Soulwax, 2ManyDjs, and technically Soulwax fm. These are all technically different but all the same. Thankfully the beginning of this documentary goes over all of this quickly to catch you up to speed.
For those who may not know, Soulwax started out as a rock band until the two Dewaele brothers decided to start DJing under the name 2ManyDjs which they said was so fun they wanted to start mixing in more electronic vibes into their music and even made an album called Nite Versions which was a complete remixed version of their previous album, any minute now.
This documentary felt a good bit like A Cross The Universe in the sense that it covers an electronic band on tour circa 2007/2008, but while ACTU focuses more on the debauchery that Justice got up to along with the live performances tacked on, this documentary focuses more on what it was like for them to play live which was a cool change of pace! It was cool seeing them play their remixes live such as their remix of Robot Rock as well as their phenomenal remix of Phantom Pt. II which is arguable to be better than the original version by Justice. I mean, Justice even used this remix in their live shows during their first tour A Cross The Universe and even used it on their most recent tour Hyperdrama live! And you bet your ass I started geeking the fuck out when in this documentary Soulwax transitioned Robot Rock into Phantom Pt. II, I mean Daft Punk and Justice, my two favorite artists being mixed together! AHHHHHHHH!
I still think that ACTU is better than this but that honestly may come down to the fact I'm just a huge Justice fan.
