it is very common for me to watch a film & feel that the female characters are 2 dimensional & defined by their relationships to the male characters. so i was pleasantly surprised by this 1966 film- which was written & directed by women, as well as being based on a memoir by jane trahey. the characterisation of the girls & nuns is very well done. i loved mary & rachel’s friendship & their love/hate relationship with the nuns. there’s actually barely any male characters in this at all. rosalind russell was brilliant in the mother superior role. it’s a great comedy that also had some powerfully emotional scenes. on top of all that, the aesthetic is stunning. so impressed 💞
