As George Antheil's avant-garde composition "Ballet Mecanique (1952 revision)" plays, a dizzying array of abstract paintings are captured in close-up, spun around, and rapidly edited together. Grotesque and frightening creatures start to emerge through the flickering shapes and patterns.

this is only the second short i see made by susan pitt but so far what ive gathered is that her work is very reliant on the inner world of people. the kind of absurd element of 'crocus' to me was very representative of the woman's sensations and thoughts, the like personal way that she approches the world even just in the set of domesticity. but i think here it's a similar esploration of the mind, just in a broader way. the images, the sounds, the pace all kind of make up this persons thoughts. i like the constrast a lot, at the start it's much more focused and youre able to make out specific shapes and the cracks in the paint. and then it becomes all more erratic and not only does it start speeding up to the point where it's hard to see the details but we also see these sexual and sometimes violent images in rapid succession and when it goes back to it just being shapes, theres still an element of like distress that comes from the rapid succession of the very bright colors alternated with the very dark and dull ones
